Melitta Emma Sutherland, a longtime resident of Uvalde County, passed away at the Pampa Nursing Center, Pampa, Texas on March 8, 2010 at the age of 94.
The youngest of three sisters, she was born May 20, 1915 to Max and Mary Von Rosenberg Goeth at Cypress Mill, Texas on the Goeth Ranch in the large rock house built by her grandfather Carl Goeth in 1882. As with many people who grew up in the early twentieth century, family heritage was an important part of life. She had many cousins who came to visit at the Goeth ranch for long periods, making these cousins like a second set of siblings. In these surroundings Melitta learned to cook for large family gatherings, which was one of her great enjoyments.
Melitta attended schools at Cypress Mill and Austin and graduated from Marble Falls High School in 1934. She married the love of her life, Edward Lesesne Sutherland on October 3, 1936 at her familys home at Cypress Mill.
Melitta and Lesesne moved to Uvalde in 1949 and were residents of Uvalde County for over 50 years, where they raised their sons. Melitta worked for Uvalde Retail Merchants for almost 20 years, and for The Uvalde Leader News until her retirement in 1977. In 1971 Lesesne and Melitta moved to their new home on the Nueces River where they welcomed family and friends and where their grandsons and great grandchildren had many happy memories.
Melitta was a very generous and caring person. She loved to cook and to grow beautiful houseplants, often sharing both with her many friends, neighbors and relatives. She and Lesesne were members of the Montell Country Club and spent many pleasant hours meeting with friends and playing cards and dominoes. For many years Melitta and Lesesne were active members of the Montell Methodist Church where faith was an important part of their lives.
.
Melitta was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, her parents and two sisters, Else Youngblood and Regina Shifflett. She is survived by her sons Gary and wife Karin of Pampa Eddie and wife Rose of Austin by two grandsons, Jason and wife Serina and Noah and wife Amy, all of Pampa. She is also survived by five greatgrandchildren, Kenadie, Colin, Zane and Sierra Sutherland and Lauren Aderholt and husband Taylor, all of Pampa, and by several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Montell Methodist Church on Saturday, March 13 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association, or to Montell Methodist Church ,
