Melvin Lee Singleton of Uvalde, 94 died August 2, 2017 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital.
The celebration of his life will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Knippa.
He was born in Parson, Kansas on February 1, 1923 to Jesse and Inez (Hecox) Singleton. He attended grade school in Arkansas and later in Crystal City. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and serviced in England and Germany. Following his discharge, he worked his way North at the Bull Shoal Dam, Ford auto plant in Kansas City then Peoria, Illinois where he was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company for over 30 years. He retired in 1985. In 1995, he returned to Texas living in Uvalde. He married Ruth Marie Douglas in Rock Island, Illinois on November 6, 1993.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Robbins and grandson, Joey Singleton.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 24 years of Uvalde; children, Nancy Dulski and husband, Martin of Orando, Illinois, Gerald Singleton of Green Valley, Illinois, Barry Singleton and wife, Sue of New Jersey, Betty Hartsiel and husband, Kurt of Sarrento, Florida and Julie Jones and husband, Aaron of Groveland, Illinois; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
