Merlin Gary

Merlin Edwin Tudor Gary was born in Uvalde, Texas on June 13, 1929 to Sophie and Tom Gary. He went to be with the Lord on November 30, 2010 after a long vigorous life filled with joys, love and challenges. Tudor grew up in Batesville, Texas. He attended South Texas Junior College then served as Sergeant in the United States Air Force until receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1952. Tudor spent a long career engaged in ranching, farming and other entrepreneurial interests. In these endeavors he was not only successful but made many lifelong friends.

He was a strong and steady member of Batesville Baptist Church. He appreciated a great horse and loved the land and observing wildlife. Tudors storytelling, hospitality and sense of humor are legendary. His family and many friends were his greatest source of joy, and we will miss him dearly.

Tudor is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kirk Gary sister, Nelda Dunkle and nephew, Gary Dunkle. Also surviving are his daughters and sonsinlaw, Pam and Bo Howard and Sandra and Rich Cordova grandchildren Zach and Ben Howard and Kathryn and Caroline Cordova and great grandchild, Bella James Marquez. Stepchildren, James Jerald Ivy and Jo Jon Brown and her children J.B. Langston, Jonley Brown and daughter Kate, Jody Brown, Jassy and Matt Crainer and children Trevor and Avery survive him.

He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter, Janet Lee Gary and her mother, Mary Lee Thomas, his niece, Rae Ann Boxwell and her father, Frank Dunkle.

Services will be held at RushingEstesKnowles Mortuary, Uvalde, Texas at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 3rd. Interment will follow at the Batesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the charity of your choice.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Cox, Mike Kirk, Blaine Laubach, Don Lindenborn, Mike Mahone, and Jon Taylor, Honorary Pallbearers will be all of his friends.
