Milly Lippke

Mildred "Milly" Lippke, 78, died April 1, 2017 in Uvalde, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Uvalde with Rev. Mark Tews officiating.
Milly was born April 15, 1938 near Albion, Nebraska to Elmer E. and Irene K. Sparks. After living in Wichita, Kansas for a few years during the latter part of World War II, her family moved to the Home Ranch near Glazier in the Texas Panhandle in 1946. She was salutatorian of the graduating class of 1956 from Canadian High School. In keeping with her lifelong commitment to education and the acquisition of knowledge, Milly later pursued a BA in English from the University of Houston, graduating magna cum laude in 1982.
During high school, Milly began working for the telephone company-moving to Amarillo after graduation to work as a service advisor for Southwestern Bell. While living at the YWCA, she met the love of her life, Hagen Lippke. They were married on August 27, 1958, and lived in Bryan and Tyler, Texas as well as Ames, Iowa while Hagen was completing his advanced studies. In 1966, they returned to Texas, settling in Angleton to raise their family.
Devotion to her husband and family were the hallmarks of Milly's life. She was committed to helping her children and their families find fulfillment and joy in their individual pursuits. A woman of strong convictions, she was a fierce advocate for her children and grandchildren. She also strove to instill in them the appreciation for literature and music that enriched her own life. Moreover, Milly was known for her compassion for others and a great generosity of spirit.
Milly was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Hagen Lippke; two sisters, Claudette Hand and Carolyn Welch; two sons, David Lippke and wife Tina of Denver, CO, Carl Lippke of Houston, TX, one daughter, Sheila Childers and husband Leonard of Kingwood, TX; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church for the purchase of a new piano.
