Modella Juliette (Dell) Shelton was born on September 29, 1916 in Wellington, Texas. She passed into eternal life on November 18, 2019 at her home in Uvalde, Texas. Her Celebration of Life will be at First United Methodist Church in Uvalde at 2:00 on Monday, November 25th, with a viewing at 1:00 preceding the service. There will be a reception after the service. Interment will be the following day at Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Texas.
Dell and her husband moved to Uvalde in 1948 and joined the First United Methodist Church in 1952. She sang alto in the choir and attended the same Sunday School class for over 50 years. She played bridge regularly into her late 90s. She quilted and sewed beautifully and was a wonderful cook. She also was an avid gardener and member of the local garden club. She raised prize winning iris and loved arranging flowers. She dearly loved her animals, and always had cats and dogs.
She is survived by her nieces and nephew, Dianne Cole, Elizabeth Peterson, Anita Oakley, Jean Flotho, Dean Gorby, Ginni Selby, Linda Penland, and Nancy Maurin, as well as their children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sammy Lloyd (Slim) Shelton, her parents, Leslie P. and Minta Pearl King, her sisters Virginia and Allene, and brothers Seab, Lee, Glenn, and Phil, as well as her nephews Clifford Gorby, Harvey Gorby, Carl Boulware, and niece Jimmie Marshall.
Before her 100th birthday she said, “I didn't intend to stay around this long, I really didn't, but I'm excited for my party.” There’s a grand party in Heaven now.
The family would like to thank Frances Jimenez, Sue Sanders, Mary Rodrigues, and Connie Velos, who cared for Dell in her last years. We would especially like to thank Karen Kolaya, who cared for and watched over Dell, read devotions with her, shopped for her, and became the daughter of her heart.
In lieu of flowers, Dell asked for donations to the Shriners Hospital for Children. Donations can be made at https://lovetotherescue.org/.
