Opal Thompson

December 18, 1920 — November 25, 2013

Opal Mozelle Thompson, better know as Moze, Mom, or Nanny, left us on Monday, November 25 for greener pastures. Moze was born on December 18, 1920 to Salathial David and Bertha Belle Andrews in Coleman, Oklahama. She married W.C., Bill Thompson, February 2, 1938, and was soon blessed with two children, Dave Ann. Bill and Moze lived in Shallowater, TX, where they ran the Citizens Coop Gin from 19531978. They moved to Tatum, New Mexico, and then retired together to Uvalde, TX, in 1983, where they were surrounded by family. After Bills death, Moze moved with her daughter and soninlaw, Bob Spurrier, to Paris TX, where they cared for her until her death.

Moze was known for many things. Her cooking was one of them and her sharp, hilarious wit was another. Everyone that knew her, loved her. She was just one of those special people that everyone wanted to be around. She was the life of the party up to the very end. For those of us who were lucky enough to be loved by her, her love was made so very clear. And we were so very fortunate.

Its Thanksgiving week. Everyone has said oh it must be so hard to lose a loved one during the holidays. But really it seems like such an appropriate and poignant reminder of how many things we have to be thankful for. And having her around for all of this time is something we are all very, very thankful for.

Moze was predeceased by her husband, Bill, and her son, Dave. She is survived by her daughter and soninlaw, Ann Bob Spurrier, daughterinlaw Thelma Thompson, of Uvalde, TX granddaughter Tonya Brami, her husband Jeff, and their children, Cody, Taylor, Emma, and TJ and grandson Ross Thompson, his wife Jae, and their daughter Kennedy.
