Oscar August Gager, 89, passed away suddenly Sunday, July 12, 2009, in Uvalde. A native and lifelong resident of Beaumont, Oscar was born August 24, 1919, to Rosa and Ernest Forrest Gager. He was married to Eunice Lee Burke in Beaumont, at the same St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, where both of their funeral services were held. His wife of sixty-six years; and his brothers, Al Gager, Barney Gager, and L. D. Gager, all of Beaumont, preceded him in death. He is survived by his sons, Karl P. Gager and his wife, Stephanie of Uvalde, and Stanley R. Gager and his wife, Maria of Houston; sister, Calla Fontenot of Beaumont; grandchildren, Jennie Riddle, Karl P. Gager, Jr., Tanya Johnson and Michael Gager; eighteen grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A rosary will be held on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Center with Monsignor Richard DeStefano officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Broussards, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009, by Monsignor John DiStefano, at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 3309, Beaumont, Texas 77704.
