Philip Lane Langford of Utopia and San Antonio departed this life on December 5, 2014 at an inpatient hospice center in San Antonio. Lane was born on June 30, 1962 in Plainview, Texas to Delbert and Beverly Woodward Langford. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1980 and from Abilene Christian University in 1986, with a BA in Missions. He excelled in music and shared his exceptional soulful voice all of his life.
Lane was a caring, kind, intelligent, compassionate, energetic, joyful individual whose greatest passion in life was loving and serving others. He was an adventurous, generous soul who traveled the world as a missionary, educator and caregiver.
Lane worked in Africa with the Nigerian Christian Hospital, serving alongside physicians caring for patients and educating villagers about the importance of healthcare. He taught English in public schools for two years in Japan. He then worked with the Houston Outdoor Education Center, giving all fifth graders in Houston one week away from citylife to experience and learn from nature. He also worked as a massage therapist for many years, and was the loving caregiver for his Nana for the last few years of her life.
The past six years Lane chose to live in San Antonio near his family. He worked at Starbucks and was also involved in his community as a volunteer and activist. Lane always strived to raise awareness of injustice and suffering, and to affect a positive change in the world
Those left to cherish his memory are: his parents who live in Utopia sisters, Lauri Horton Kevin, Lisa Loney and Jennifer Massey Jon, all of San Antonio, Texas nieces, Erin Lane David, Katie Loney, Meaghan Loney all of Uvalde, and McCartney Sleed of San Antonio nephews, Michael Loney Ami of Grand Prairie, Texas, Daniel Horton Sarah of Dallas, Caleb Horton and Jordan Sleed, both of San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Hal and Clara Woodward and Alfred and Lucy Langford.
