Refugia Guadalupe Uriegas Talavera of Uvalde passed away peacefully on December 5, 2022, at Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 93.
She was born on May 8, 1929, in Uvalde to Maximina (Zepeda) and Refugio Ramos Uriegas.
She married Manuel Alfonso Talavera on December 18, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde.
She is survived by her three daughters, Christine Tabares of West Bend, Wisconsin, Rosario Compean of Uvalde, Texas and Cecilia T. Martinez and husband, George of Uvalde; four sons, Homero A. Talavera and wife, Maria Elena of San Antonio, Edward Talavera of Fort Atkinson Wisconsin, Julian Talavera of San Antonio; and James D. Talavera of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; sister, Elisa U. Morales of San Antonio; brother, Rodolfo Uriegas; sister in law, Estella Talavera Silva; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Alfonso Talavera; parents, Refugio and Maximina Uriegas; brothers, Alfredo Uriegas, Juan Uriegas, Roberto Uriegas, daughter in law, Laurie Talavera, son in law, Juan Tabares and granddaughter, Kayla Talavera.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 1 p.m followed by a rosary at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
