The Reverend Richard Marion Freeman of San Antonio went to be with the Lord on the afternoon of August 16, 2017, at his family ranch in Utopia, Texas. He was 82.
Dick, as he was known to family and friends, was born on November 21, 1934, in Dimmitt, Texas. Dick and his beloved wife of 58 years, Lois Marie Kelley Freeman, devoted their lives to the service of the Lord Jesus Christ.
He graduated from Midwestern State University in 1955 and the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in 1956 before spending two years in Edinburg Scotland at the New College of Theology. He served as senior pastor at churches in Texas City, Cameron, Dallas and Bedford, with his longest ministerial appointment at First United Methodist Church in Waco where he was senior pastor for 25 years from 1969-1994. Most recently, he led the Sunday morning welcome team at Crossbridge Community Church in San Antonio where he continued to mentor many, young and old.
Dick is survived by his wife Lois Marie Kelley Freeman, originally of Beaumont; his children Karen Marie Freeman Cook, her husband Dr. David Cook and their daughters Lexie and Hannah Cook of Fort Worth; Dr. Richard Kelley Freeman, his wife Julie and their children Katie, John and Annie Freeman of San Antonio; Reverend Stewart Kirk Freeman, his wife Debbie and their daughters Ellie, Sarah Grace and Mary Callen Freeman of San Antonio; his brother John Alfred Freeman and wife Sherry of Fredericksburg; and brother Larry Charles Freeman and wife Becky of Kerrville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews from around Texas who loved him dearly.
The memorial service to honor Dick's life will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, August 20, at Crossbridge Community Church at 25700 Overlook Parkway in San Antonio. A graveside service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, August 25, at Jones Cemetery in Utopia.
