Robert T. Cook age 68 of Uvalde died of natural causes February 6th 2009 in Falfurrias, Texas; he was called Bobby, Dad and Papa by his family; his exploration friends called him Cookie. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dora and three children, Don Williams of Uvalde, Diane Williams Grimnes of Chandler, Arizona and Kimberly Cook Sorensen and husband Sean of Tomball, Texas. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Shelby and Bailey Grimnes of Chandler, Arizona and Courtney Sorensen of Tomball, Texas. Also survived by three sisters, Kathy Stovall and husband Atlee of Burleson, Texas, Carol Dayton and Betty Bounds of Houston, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard and his parents Clarence and Ida Mae Cook.
Robert worked for Shell Oil Company from 1968 to 1992 during which time he and his family moved with the Shell crew Family to Oklahoma, North Dakota, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah before moving to Houston, Texas in 1989. He truly enjoyed his work, his friends, and all the places he was able to see in his travels with Shell. His first love was his family but his second love was hunting. His travels with Shell allowed him to enjoy many hunts in many places.
Robert and Dora moved back to Uvalde in 2002 where they and their son had purchased a small business in 2001.
After retirement from Shell in 1992 Robert went back to work in exploration doing contract work for various companies, which is what he was doing at the time of his death.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday February 13th 2009 at Rushing Estes Knowles Mortuary. Services will be held Saturday February 14th 2009 at 2 P.M. at Rushing Estes Knowles Chapel with Rev. Justin Chessher officiating. Internment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetary.
Pallbearers will be Bob Gilleland, Bob Bruce, Jerry Eastman, Scott Detwiler, Will Zelaya, and David Scoggins, some of his many friends he made along his exploration travels.
