Rocky Jay Vipond of Uvalde passed away on December 20, 2011 in University Hospital, San Antonio, TX at the age of 63. He was born on November 30, 1948 in Wichita, Kansas to George and Margaret Haywood Vipond. He served in the U.S. Navy on the Coral Sea. Rocky married Susan Wilson in Corpus Christi on January 12, 1985. He is survived by his wife of 26 years two daughters, Erica Bohannon and husband, Michael of Waco and Kristen Vipond and husband, Jason Salazar of San Antonio three sisters, Marsha Downs of California Rhonda Cleveland of Arkansas and Joni McLain of Washington and four grandchildren, Tyler Blackmer Austin Bohannon Camryn Salazar and Kendall Salazar. He was preceded in death by his parents. Rocky retired from the Corpus Christi Police Dept. with over thirty years of service. He was a lieutenant in charge of the Criminal Investigation Division since 1993. He was recognized numerous times throughout his career for outstanding work for the Police Dept. According to his family, he was very dedicated to his police work. Family visitation will be from 5:007:00 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at RushingEstesKnowles Mortuary. Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 9:45 AM at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
