Roman Hernandez, Sr. of Batesville passed away on September 18, 2018 in Main Methodist hospital in San Antonio at the age of 71. He was born on February 28, 1947 in Cotulla to Benito and Tomasa (Garza) Hernandez.
He married Luisa Ramos of Batesville on April 10, 1966 in Batesville, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years of Batesville; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Hernandez and husband, Juan Barrios of Quitaque, Rosa Belia Villarreal and husband, Juan Antonio of Quitaque and Maria Christina Hernandez of Uvalde; sons, Richard Hernandez and wife, Ana Martinez of Batesville, Roman Hernandez Jr of Batesville; sisters, Olga Rodriguez, Gloria Cuellar, Selia Ramos, Esmeralda and husband, Isidro Cantu all of Batesville, Rosa Torres and husband, Ismael of Plainview, Bertha Garcia and husband, Clemente of Elgin; brothers, Benito Hernandez and wife, Julia of Houston and Israel Hernandez of Batesville; 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Leonarda Mata;
A rosary will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing Estes Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Batesville following interment at Batesville cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Rodriguez, Priciliano Mata, Juan Villarreal Jr., Roman Hernandez III, Richard Hernandez Jr. and Lee Roy Villarreal, Isidro Cantu Jr. and Lauro Garza.
