Romelia Martinez Rocha of San Antonio, Texas, was born on January 15, 1932 to Jose and Maria Martinez and went to be with the Lord on August 18, 2019 at the age of 87. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Nieves Rocha of San Antonio, Texas; sons, Henry Lee Becerra and wife, Guadalupe of San Antonio, Jesse Becerra and wife Maria of Eagle Pass, Carlos Becerra and wife Olivia of La Pryor, Luis Roberto Flores and wife Belia of La Pryor, David Oscar Flores and wife Thronda of Scottsville, Michigan, Alvino Flores III and wife Sylvia of La Pryor, and Augustine Flores and wife Consuelo of Killeen, Alejandro Serapio Flores and wife Marcela of Arriba, Colorado; two daughters, Maria Teresa Dube and husband Darren of La Pryor, and Fidelia Ballesteros and husband Robert of Knippa, along with 36 grandchildren, 78.5 great grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Johnny Becerra and was the last remaining Martinez out of 10 children, David, Nilda, Fred, Basilio, Jesus, Emilio, Salvador, Santos and Jose, born to Jose and Maria Bustos Martinez of San Antonio, Texas.
Romelia Martinez Flores dedicated her early years to raising her children, she was a Girl Scout Leader and a 4H mom, ensuring that all her children learned qualities and skills to carry them into adulthood. She dedicated herself to God, her church ministry and a life of service to others. Romelia was always ready to dance and enjoyed life, she traveled extensively and enjoyed stopping at casinos along the way. She lived for her family and no matter the distance, she made the trip to attend all their significant milestones, whether they were birthdays, baptismals or weddings.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, followed by a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in La Pryor, Texas. Interment will follow at La Pryor Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Maricela Villalobos, Roxann Gallegos, Augustine Flores Jr., Johnny Becerra Jr., Jesse Becerra Jr., Alvino Flores IV, Bobby Flores Jr., and Carmen Elizondo. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Flores Jr., Lisa Hernandez, David Flores Jr., Henry Lee Becerra.
