Ronald Eugene Deacon of Uvalde passed away on November 22, 2016 at his residence at the age of 69. He was born on October 20, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to Harry S. Deacon and Lenora Putnam Deacon. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joanne Deacon of Uvalde; children, Emily Deacon of Uvalde, Andy Deacon of Illinois, Wesley Coleman of Iowa, Scott Coleman of Las Vegas, NV, Katie Flood-Linder of Tennessee, and Heather Flood-Gates of Minnesota; sisters, Diana Deacon of Saginaw, MI and Norma Hitt of McHenry, IL; brother, Stanley M. Braibish of Washington; and grandchildren, Claudia and Alex Linder; Laura, Allison, and Julia Gates; Miles, Corben, and Max Deacon; Gatlin, Damien, and Hope Coleman; Caylie and Caleb Coleman; and Wyatt Smith. He was a volunteer firefighter in 1967 in Libertyville, IL. He then became a full-time firefighter from 1972-1977. During that time, he became Fire Marshal and was the first and youngest to hold that position. He owned a bookstore in Savanna, IL from 1986-1997 called "R.J. Hawkes". He wrote a book called "You Can't Conquer Them: An Oral History of an American P.O.W." which was published in 1996. Mr. Deacon had an extensive military collection and personal museum which he was very proud of. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 4:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Memorial donations may be made to El Progreso Memorial Library, 301 E.
