Ruben Ureste Musquiz, Sr. of Uvalde passed away on December 18, 2010 in Amistad Nursing Rehabilitation Center at the age of 67. He was born on August 21, 1943 in Uvalde to Julian F. and Julia Ureste Musquiz. He married Nancy Esmeralda Canales Bernal on February 8, 1969 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde. He is survived by his wife of 41 years son, Ruben Ureste Musquiz of Uvalde sister, Amelia M. Quiroz of Uvalde brother, Juan Jose Musquiz and wife, Elsie of Temple, TX three grandchildren, Destiny Alessandra Gonzales Musquiz Julian Andrew Gonzales Musquiz and Amanda Denise Gonzales Losoya greatgrandson, Maxximus Alexander Gonzales sisterinlaw, Delia De Leon Musquiz of Las Vegas, Nevada mother of his grandchildren, Audrey Gonzales Diaz of Uvalde special family friend, Rose Sammarripa of Uvalde and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents brothers, Ramiro U. Musquiz and Arnulfo U. Musquiz and nephew, David Torres Musquiz. Ruben attended Uvalde public schools and the University of Texas in Austin with extensive training in management. Ruben was drafted into the Armed Forces of the United States of America. He entered the U.S. Army in April 1965. His basic training took place at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Ruben was stationed overseas in Germany from November 1965 until March 1967. He served as Specialist Automotive Repairman in Company A, 66th Maintenance, B.N. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on April 13, 1971. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Sharp Shooter, Tank Weapons, Marksman AwardRifleman, and various other medals. After his discharge, he returned home to Uvalde. Ruben began working for various construction companies building and maintaining Texas highways. He worked for Ballard Haile, Inc. from 19671970. He then went to work for White Mines from 19701987. When White Mines sold to Vulcan Materials, Ruben began working with Vulcan Materials from 19872004. He retired from Vulcan Materials in 2004. Rubens hobbies included collecting and restoring antique vehicles, participating in car shows, listening to oldies but goodies music, and watching TV. According to his family, he was a good storyteller. He always had a story to tell. He really enjoyed reminiscing about his childhood experiences as he traveled throughout Texas with his family who were migrant workers. He also spoke at great lengths about his travels overseas while in the military. Ruben also shared with family and friends stories about his travels that took him throughout the United States while working as a truck driver for White Mines and Vulcan Materials based out of Uvalde. His family and friends state that Ruben was a good son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. They said that he was an honest man. He believed strongly in the work ethic. He maintained strong relationships with his lifelong buddies. He had a passion for his country. He considered himself a jack of all trades, master of none. His family states that he will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, and his community. Ruben was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A rosary will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 7:00 PM at the RushingEstesKnowles Chapel.
