Ruby Lee Brigman

Ruby H. Brigman, 87, of Uvalde, passed away peacefully at her residence on February 19, 2025.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Uvalde Methodist Church.  Interment will follow at Uvalde Cemetery.

Born on November 23, 1937, in Uvalde, Texas, Ruby was the daughter of Rosalie Coleman Hobbs and James Preston Huddleston. She married the love of her life, John Brigman, on June 14, 1958, and together they built a life filled with love, service, and dedication to family and community.

Ruby was deeply involved in her community and generously gave her time to numerous organizations. An avid gardener, she was a dedicated member of all three local garden clubs, holding every office at least once. She served as President of the Green Thumb Garden Club five times, District Office Chairman, State Officer, Chairman, and was honored as State Garden Club Member of the Year in 2010.

Her passion for mentoring young people led her to serve as a 4-H Club project leader for more than 36 years, guiding children in gardening, cooking, livestock care—including lamb, cattle, and horses—photography, food and nutrition, and dog training and shows.

Ruby’s contributions extended beyond the garden and 4-H. She was a devoted member of United Methodist Women, the Uvalde Historical Commission, Inc., Caddel-Smith Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the Uvalde de los Encino Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Additionally, she was affiliated with Magna Charta, the Frances Booth Chapter of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, and the Uvalde Tree City USA Board, where she served for 15 years, including as Chairman in 2014.

She also served on the Uvalde City of Lights Board, the Medina Electric Co-Op Inc. Advisory Committee, and the Medina Electric Cooperative Scholarship Committee, demonstrating her commitment to the enrichment of her community. A woman of strong faith, she dedicated many years to teaching Sunday School and leading Vacation Bible School.

In addition to her many leadership roles, Ruby also spent six years teaching kindergarten at Miss Ima’s private school, leaving a lasting impression on generations of young learners.

Ruby was known for her boundless energy, unwavering faith, and selfless devotion to others. She loved life, her family, and her community, always putting others before herself. Whether tending to her beloved garden, mentoring children, or giving back through her many organizations, she lived each day with purpose and grace.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, James Preston Huddleston and Rosalie Hobbs; her brother and his wife, Roy Lynn and Icey Huddleston; her sisters and their spouses Verian and Jessie Bailey, and Net and Dr. A.G.Ollre; as well as brothers-in-law and their spouses, Fred and Mary Brigman, and George and Ada Brigman.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, John Brigman; her brother Les and his wife Rosie Hobbs; her son John Brigman Jr.; and her daughter Charlotte Brigman and her husband Troy DeLosh. She also leaves behind her beloved grandson, Mason Soward, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ruby’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and community service will continue to inspire all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Uvalde Methodist Church or a charity of your choice, honoring Ruby’s lifelong commitment to giving back.
