Rubye Cook

Rubye P. Cook of Uvalde passed away on March 7, 2016 in Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 95. She was born on November 21, 1920 in McMann, OK to Charlie Stephen Price and America Trout Price. She married Oliver Cook in Elsa, TX on April 18, 1939. He preceded her in death in 2005. Mrs. Cook lived in Quemado from 1949 - 2003 at which time she and her husband moved to Uvalde to live with her daughter, Cookie and her husband, Stanley. She belonged to the Quemado Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was manager of Sears and Roebuck in Eagle Pass for over 20 years. She retired in 1984. She is survived by a daughter, Navelle "Cookie" Meckel and husband, Stanley of Uvalde; two sons, William Cook of Houston and James Cook and wife, Patsy of Quemado; two sisters, Vieva Cook of Abilene and Vernell Ham of League City; brother, Charles Price and wife, Margaret of Ennis; grandchildren, Morris Barrow and wife, Norma of Eagle Pass; Keith Barrow and wife, Rhonda of Uvalde; Bill Surber and wife, Tina of Uvalde; Ann Hall and husband, Randy of Midland; Tanya Cook of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Lee Cook and wife, Susie of Quemado; Shelly Martinez and husband, Abraham of Quemado; Brian Cook and wife, Jeannette of Houston; and Tricia Farquhar and husband, Michael of Houston; 23 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Stephen Jay Price; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Cook. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Mrs. Cook's nephew, Rev. Tommy Ham of Georgetown, will officiate. Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Justin Barrow, Cody Barrow, Matthew Barrow, Wyatt Barrow, Dustin Martinez, and William Farquhar.
