Salome Diaz Lopez Sr. of Uvalde passed away on April 22, 2010 at his residence at the age of 89. He was born on April 9, 1921 in Sabinal, Texas to Nabor and Eduvijen Lopez. He married Basilisa Rodriguez in Uvalde in 1942. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Basilisa Lopez of Uvalde, Texas six daughters Angelita Mora and husband, Felix of Falfurrias, Texas Irma L. Suarez and husband, Sonny Linda L. Tenorio Dora Juarez and husband, Joe Beatrice Uriegas and husband, Henry and Rosie Olvedo and husband, Mando all of Uvalde, Texas five sons Salome Lopez Jr. and wife, Petra of Steger, Illinois Nabor Lopez and wife Armandina of Corpus Christi, Texas Roy Lopez of Uvalde, Texas Arturo Lopez and wife, Luvin of San Antonio, Texas and Jesse Lopez and wife, Maria of Sabinal, Texas thirtyone grandchildren fiftytwo great grandchildren two greatgreat grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents two sons Richard Lopez and Pablito Lopez one grandson and six sisters. He was a veteran of WWII, a Purple Heart Recipient and numerous military commendations. He opened a grocery buisness, Lopez and Sons which was in operation from 1945 to 1963, and a second grocery store in north Uvalde. He worked for the Civil Service at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas from 1965 to 1982. After his retirement from the civil service he worked for The Uvalde Bank from 1988 to 1994. He was an active member and supporter of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic School were all his children attended school. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He will always be remembered as a Loving husband, father and grandfather who always gave and never expected anything in return. God and his family were the most important things in his life. A rosary will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 7:00 PM at RushingEstesKnowles Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
