Samuel Rodrigues

Samuel Pete Rodrigues of Uvalde passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the age of 67 in Uvalde.  Samuel was born on March 2, 1952 in Eagle Pass to Manuel Pete and Isabel (Romo) Rodrigues.  He married Graciela Moreno on September 25, 1977 in Uvalde.  Samuel is survived by his wife of 41 years Graciela Rodrigues of Uvalde; two daughters, Julisabel Alvarado and husband Joe of Uvalde and Candelaria Pete Rodrigues of San Antonio; sons, Samuel Pete Rodrigues, Dos and wife Stephanie of Schertz and John Paniagua of Lytle; three grandchildren, Carolina Julisa Alvarado of Uvalde, Samuel Pete Rodrigues, Tres and Stephan Alexander Rodrigues both of Schertz; two sisters, Maria R. Salinas and Mary Pete Ramirez and husband Esteban both of Eagle Pass; five brothers, Henry Pete Rodrigues and wife Magdalena of Eagle Pass, Manuel Pete Rodrigues and wife Romelia of Eagle Pass, Richard Pete Rodrigues and wife Mely of Eagle Pass, Rudy Pete Rodrigues  and wife Lupita of San Antonio and David Pete Rodrigues and wife Elsa of Natalia; sister-in-law, Alicia Pete Rodrigues of Eagle Pass; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Josephine Lozano, Rosa Saucedo and Annie P. Villanueva; brother Frank Pete Rodrigues and wife Gloria; brother-in-law Sabino Salinas Sr.

Sam was raised in Seco Mines and later in a ranch in Eagle Pass Texas. He attended their schools and work on the ranch as well as other jobs in town. He was a volunteer with the Eagle Pass Fire Department for several years. Sam was a professional truck driver, his handle was "El Portugues". He retired from his 50 year trucking career in 2014. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus for both the 3rd and 4th degrees.

A Rosary will be recited on  Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Uvalde Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Pete Rodrigues, Rodolfo Pete Rodrigues, David Pete Rodrigues, Samuel Pete Rodrigues, Dos, Joe Alvarado and John Paniagua.   Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
