Savina Rodriguez

Savina Ruiz Rodriguez of Uvalde passed away on June 20, 2013 at Odyssey Hospice in San Antonio at the age of 86. She was born on April 5, 1927 in Campwood, Texas to Sotero L. and Rafaela Martinez Ruiz. She married Nicolas Flores Rodriguez on June 14, 1953 in Uvalde, Texas. She is survived by her brother Homero M. Ruiz and wife Hortencia of San Antonio, Texas nephews, Homero L. Ruiz Jr. of West Virginia, Daniel L. Ruiz of Uvalde, Texas Rene L. Ruiz of DHanis, Texas Rey Ruiz and Timothy Ruiz both of San Antonio, Texas. She was a member of various Catholic organizations including The Catholic Womens Club, Holy Name Society, Grupo Guadalupanas and the Archdioceses of Catholic Women in San Antonio, where she was the past President and Secretary. She also served as Eucharistic Minister, lector and was a Sunday money counter at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde. She was also involved in different civic organizations, including Charter and Life member of The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 479, Life member of Fort Inge D.A.V. Auxiliary, past Vice President and past Chaplain of The American Legion Auxiliary District 21. She enjoyed doing volunteer work for Uvalde Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Cancer Society, Uvalde Adult Activity Center and St. Henry De Osso Family Project. Mrs. Rodriguez was awarded the Volunteer of the Year in 1997 by the Chamber of Commerce of Uvalde. Her past employers included Montell Grocery Store, C.G. Morrison, Eagle Loan Company, Western and Southern Life Insurance Company, Medical Arts Pharmacy, Attorney Generals Office in Uvalde and Dalton Elementary School. Mrs. Rodriguez was preceded in death by her husband and parents. A rosary will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 7:00 PM at RushingEstesKnowles Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Uvalde with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John McDonald, Demencio Flores Jr., Johnny Flores, Raul Flores, Roy Lopez and Joe Villarreal.
