SGT. Christopher J. Chris Perez of Uvalde passed away on August 21, 2012 in Sierra Vista, Arizona where he was stationed in the U.S. Army at Ft. Huachuca. He was born on January 23, 1984 in Austin to John Perez and Rosario Fuentes.
He began serving in the U.S. Army 2004 and participated in three separate tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. He loved his job and was always ready to serve his country. His accomplishments were The Army Commendation Medal, The Army Achievement Medal, The Army Good Conduct Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Afghanistan Campaign Medal, The Iraq Campaign Medal, The Global War and Terrorism Service Medal, The NCO Professional Development Ribbon, The Overseas Service Ribbon and The NATO Medal.
He is survived by his mother, Rosario Fuentes and companion Allen Long of Rockport, Texas, father, Juan JohnniePerez of Austin, brothers, John Perez Jr. and wife Barbara and Daniel Perez and wife Crystal both of Uvalde nephews, Jared Perez, Jay Perez, Daniel Perez Jr., Stephen Perez and Jayden Perez, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Eulalio Perez, maternal grandparents, Natividad and Marina Fuentes of Uvalde and paternal grandparents, Alfredo and Maria Perez of Pearsall.
A rosary will be held on Wednesday August 29, 2012 and Thursday August 30, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the RushingEstesKnowles Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday August 31, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Perez, Daniel Perez, Paul Brock, Victor Cabrales, Greg Hernandez and Jaime Fuentes. Honorary pallbearers will be David Fuentes and Richard Fuentes.
