Shirley May Moore Backor, 89, of Uvalde died on Nov. 10, 2015 in Uvalde.
A rosary will be recited Thursday, 11/12/15, at 7 p.m. at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel.
A service will be held Friday, 11/13/15 at 1 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. Valentine Gallegos.
She was born on Sept. 13, 1926, in Sioux City, Iowa to Dorothy (Carroll) and L.A. Moore.
She married Earl Andrew Backor on Sept. 4, 1947, in Crystal City.
She graduated high school in Crystal City in 1943. She received her nursing degree from the University of the Incarnate Word Santa Rosa program, and worked as a registered nurse for more than 50 years.
She was a longtime member of the Catholic Women's Club in Uvalde.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Don Moore, and one sister, Margaret Williams.
Blessed to be her nine children are: Dorothy Brady of San Antonio, Beth Hammer and husband, Don, of Hobbs, New Mexico, Steve Backor and wife, Karen, of Kerrville, Kathleen Zadik and husband, Ed, of Natalia, Ricky Backor of Temple, Paul Backor and wife, Jeannie, of Harlingen, Barbie Hoffman of Uvalde, Sharon Vaughan and husband, Jeff, of Uvalde, Karen McLaughlin and husband, Donald Jr., of Uvalde.
She is also survived by 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; one brother, Jack Moore and wife, Tinker, of New Braunfels; and one sister, Mary Jean Kilpatrick of California.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
