Soila Samora Castillo, 98, of Uvalde passed away on July 12, 2019 at her residence in Uvalde, surrounded by her family.
She was born on June 27, 1921 in Uvalde to Concepcion Hernandez and Lucas Samora Sr.
Soila “Wella” (as known to everyone) always brought joy to anyone that she interacted with. She brought out and saw the best in everyone, and was the heart and soul that would bring her family together. Wella was avid sports fan, she loved the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and the San Antonio Spurs. Family was very important to her. Sunday dinners were a big part of her weekly traditions, as well as the holidays. Wella was an amazing cook, and passed down all of her best recipes and dishes to her daughters, and granddaughters throughout the years. She will be greatly missed by her family and those who loved her dearly.
She is survived by four daughters, Guadalupe Castillo, Lilly Saiz, Eva Cabrales, and husband, Victor, Gloria Reyes and husband, Ruben; two sons, George Rodriguez, and companion, Connie and Victor Cruz and wife, Angie, all of Uvalde; daughter in law, Delia Alvarado of San Antonio, Texas and Alice Zamora of Salt Lake City, Utah; sisters, Connie Zamora of Salt Lake City, Utah and Beatrice Gonzales of Wayland Post, Michigan, sister-in law Josefa Samora of Del Rio, Texas; 24 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; 43 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Abelino Alvarado and Arturo Zamora; daughter, Mari Lou Cruz, grandsons, Roger Alvarado, Victor Cruz, Jr. ; great grandson, Michael Ray Cruz, son-in law, Jimmy Saiz; brothers, Lucas Samora, Jr. and Acensio Samora; sister, Ofelia Frausto, Victoria Cadena, Felice Ward, Catalina Claubaugh and Janie Zamora.
Special thanks to her caregivers, Esmeralda Cano, Destinny Vanmeter and Tres De la Garza and to Uvalde Memorial Hospital hospice staff.
Visitation will begin on Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A rosary will be held on Monday and Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
