Stanley Albert Williams passed into eternity on July 7, 2010 at his residence at the age of 91. .
Mr. Williams was born in Burnet, Texas to Hiram H. and Nona Ligon Williams on October 29, 1918. He graduated from Llano High School, attended Abilene Christian College, and received his B.A. Degree from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1941. That same year he joined the Army Air Corp as a Flight Officer and married his wife of 58 years, Virgil Irene Evans, in December. He served as a Flight Instructor at Garner Field in Uvalde, Texas at the beginning of World War II and completed his service in the Ferry Command, delivering planes to Alaska for the war effort in Russia. In 1999, he and several other pilots in the Ferry Command received the Zuchov Award, one of the highest Russian medals from President Boris Yeltsin.
The family moved to Camp Wood, Texas in 1945, and he resided in Nueces Canyon until his death. He was a selfemployed businessman, served on the Barksdale ISD School Board before the schools consolidated in 1954, and served as a Deacon in the Nueces Canyon Church of Christ. S.A. was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many hunting trips to Colorado with his family and friends. He loved the outdoors and all Gods creation and was admired for his honesty, integrity, and work ethic.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his grandson, Roy Lynn Williams. Also predeceasing him were his sister and her husband, Ophelia and Lowell Lynn and his sister, Lois Schwartz. He is survived by his sons, Lyndon Williams, Wendell Williams and wife, Welda, Tom Williams and wife, Cathy, and daughter, Irene White and husband, Andy. He is survived by grandchildren, Shay Williams, Nicole Bell and husband, Steve, Matt Williams and wife, Regan, Blake Williams and wife, Randi and their daughter Audrey. S. A. is also survived by his younger sisters, Vera Geer and husband, Sam, Edna Brown and husband Ed, brother Loyd Williams and wife, Marie, brotherinlaw, R. C. Schwartz, and many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his best friend whom he loved, Mary Lou Berry, and by his beloved Papillon, Prissy. The Williams Family acknowledges our great debt of gratitude to Mary Lou for her untiring devotion to our Dad. We are forever grateful. Also, we extend our special thanks to Juanita Rodriguez for the wonderful care she gave our Dad in his last years. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Nueces Canyon Church of Christ in Camp Wood with burial to follow in the Barksdale Cemetery.
