Stephen M. Kerbow

Stephen M. Kerbow, beloved husband, father, and friend, died Tuesday, October 10, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 69.   

A lifelong reader who loved to teach, Stephen was born on November 24, 1953 in Amarillo, Texas, to parents, Paul and Hazel Kerbow.  Stephen graduated from West Texas State with his bachelors in history and continued to receive his masters in history and government. While teaching high school in Dumas, Texas at a basketball game he met his true love, Lana Lewis. They married August 4, 1984, in Dumas, Texas.

Stephen and Lana welcomed their son, Paul, in 1986 and started a new adventure as a family.  In 1990, they moved to Uvalde, Texas in order for Stephen to achieve his dream job of teaching at a college. 

Stephen not only loved his family but Australian Rules football and volleyball.  Stephen enjoyed being involved in church serving in many different activities including welcoming people into his home.  Stephen was active in Relay for Life and working in the food pantry.  He became a Rotarian and served as president.  Stephen received many awards including Rotary Hidden Hero, Harvey Kinchlow Sports Award, and Volunteer of the Year. 

He is survived by his wife, son, Paul Kerbow and wife, Lynne; grandson, Robert Kerbow, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. 

Family visitation will be at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will take place at Getty St. Church of Christ in Uvalde on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
