Steve Hopper

July 24, 1954 — March 30, 2014

Steve Alan Hopper passed away on March 30, 2014 at his home in Uvalde, TX, with his family by his side.
Steve was born on July 24, 1954 in Baytown, TX. He was the youngest of six children. While attending college at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Steve met and married the love of his life, Sandra Gonzalez. After graduating with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts, he and Sandra moved to Uvalde, TX. There, they raised their four children in a home filled with love and memories.
One of Steves greatest passions was the arts. His family home is replete with the craft of his beautiful paintings, illustrations, and plaster casts. Steve also loved spending time with his family including his first grandchild, a Boston Terrier named Rossi, riding his motorcycle, reading science fiction books, and watching TV.
Steve loved computers. For over 18 years he worked as a computer technician for the Carrizo Independent School District.
Steve spent the last 8 years of his life battling cancer. He fought the battle with great humor, wit, and much style. He made a memorable impression on doctors and patients alike by wearing his signature plain black pocket tshirts, Levis jeans and bright red shoes. His long blonde hair was the envy of many, and his dry humor was like none other.
Steve is survived by Sandra, his wife of 34 years, his two daughters Aime and Kay Dawn, his two sons Garett and Dylan, and three grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers James Wayne, and his sister Patricia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Lois Hopper and his brothers Edward and Ray.
Friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances may pay their last respects to Steve this Thursday, April 3, 2014, beginning at 10am at the RushingEstesKnowles Chapel in Uvalde, TX. A memorial service will be held at the Chapel that same evening at 7pm. The Hopper family asks that anyone who wishes to honor Steve, make their contributions to the El Progreso Library in Uvalde.
