Thomas Henry Winkle passed away on November 20, 2021 at the age of 91. He had a heavenly reunion with his sister Rita Deligiannis, daughter, Dawn Winkle, grandsons Taylor and Thomas Nunley and great grandson, William “Willis” Huddleston.
He was born on October 18, 1930 in Mineola, TX to Burnett and Anne Winkle.
Tom graduated from Gilmer High School in 1949 then proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Calvert in Korea from 1950-1951.
Tom’s 69 year marriage to Janet M. Taylor began on July 25, 1952 in Gilmer, Texas. Soon after attending technical college in Abilene, Tom and Jan moved to Uvalde and opened Tom Winkle Radio and TV Service in 1955. Tom worked until his retirement in 2004.
His passion for flying his Moonie Mite grew from his younger years and he shared his wisdom with anyone willing to sit still. He filled his free time by serving as an American Legion Officer, square dancing with Jan, and growing a pecan orchard. If you couldn’t find him on the golf course he was most likely found on the Leona River.
He loved the outdoors and everything that could be explored beyond the horizon. His grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren always encouraged an ear to ear smile and laughter.
He is survived by his wife Jan, daughters, Karen Huddleston (Mike) of Uvalde and Dana Nunley (Bob) of Sabinal. Grandchildren, Amanda Lyttleton (Chris), Kristen Dawson, Annie Seiler(Scott), Ben Huddleston (Catherine) and Chloe Wilson (Rangler) and 11 beautiful great grandchildren.
