Valentin Vela

Valentin C. Vela of Uvalde passed away on February 23, 2009 in Uvalde Memorial Hospital at the age of 78. He was born on February 14, 1931 in Knippa, Texas to Jesus and Martina Vela. He married Hortencia Garza in Crystal City on October 23, 1953. He was the owner of Vela Auto Repair from 1976 to 2006. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Hortencia Vela of Uvalde, Texas; three daughters; Rachel Gonzales and Nora Gonzales both of Uvalde, Texas; and Lorrie Fuller of Ryan, Oklahoma; one son; David Vela of Uvalde, Texas; two sisters; Juanita Togo of San Antonio; and Santa Ortega of Eagle Pass, Texas; two brothers; Antonio Knippa Vela of Uvalde, Texas; and Jose Chuko Vela of California; grandchildren; Johnnie Santos III, Michell Gloria Gonzales, David Vela Jr., Casey , Chelsie and Daniel Fuller, and Regina Santos; great grandchild; Isis Luna Santos; numerous nieces and nephews; one niece considered as a daughter Angie Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother Juan Vela. A rosary will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
