Van Long

Van "Earl" Long was born on October 22, 1943 in Big Spring, Texas to William Floyd Long and Henry Zaye Mitchell Long. He passed away on December 31, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 72. He moved to Utopia at the age of eight years. Earl is survived by his wife of fifty two years, Darlene Riggs Long of San Antonio; daughters, Lisa Burke and husband Wayne and Valerie Phillips and husband, John all of San Antonio, and Janet Baker and husband Bill of Medina, six grandchildren, Jackie and Sean Burke, Drake and Sydney Phillips, all of San Antonio, and Colton and Shelby Baker of Medina, two great-grandchildren, Charles Lozier and Landri Gardner of Medina, two brothers, Dell Ray Long and Joe Long of De Leon, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lavinia Long Boyd and Clara Long Nabors, and brothers, Bill Long, Dean Long and Louis Long.
A memorial service will be held later this spring. Details will be announced in the Uvalde paper at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to your favorite high school athletic department or Utopia EMS.
