Virginia Jo Rhodes went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 3, 2016. She had fought a courageous battle with cancer since 1987.
Virginia J. Rhodes was born on October 25, 1939 in Stamford, Texas to Henry Taylor Webb and Clara (Fender) Webb.
Ginnie, as she was known to her family and friends, grew up in the Winters, Texas area and attended college at Tarleton and North Texas, graduating with a major in business education. She began her teaching career in the Big Spring area. When she and her family moved to Uvalde, Texas in the fall of 1969, she began teaching at Uvalde High School. Ginnie found joy in working with her students. She taught business classes which included keyboarding and computers. She was always eager to help her fellow teachers with any computer needs. She taught school for 39 years, retiring in 2001. Her entire life was dedicated to teaching.
She was an active member of Delta Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma where she served as president for two separate terms. She also served in almost every office and committee. She was also a member of the Uvalde Retired Teachers Association, serving as secretary for many years.
Ginnie and her husband, Ray, have been active members of the First Baptist Church in Uvalde where she has been a member for 46 years. Their Sunday School class has become an extended family for the two of them.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and also enjoyed traveling. Her favorite trip was the one to Germany the summer of 2000 when she, Ray, and some friends were blessed with the opportunity to attend the Passion Play.
She cherished making crafts and sharing those treasures with her loved ones. She was very talented with stained glass, painting, scrapbooking, needlework, and making homemade cards. She will always be remembered for having a great attitude towards life.
Ginnie is survived by her husband of 33 years, Ray W. Rhodes and two children; Alice Kay Kelly of Uvalde, Texas, and Joe Henry Kelly and wife Jerri Lynn Kelly of Weatherford, Texas. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Taylor and Claire Dean of Uvalde, Taylor Lynn and Ginnie Kelly of Weatherford; a brother, Bryan Webb and wife, Marcie of Winters, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Henry T. Webb and Clara Webb; a brother, Bob Webb; and a sister, Alice Smith.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Uvalde, Texas on March 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Russel Ellinger, Dale Fountain, Bill McWhorter, Robert Paysinger, Bill Surber, and Gene Steele. Honorary pallbearers were men of the Leading Edge Sunday School Class.
