Walter Otis Harrington of Uvalde passed away on February 10, 2017 at his son's residence at the age of 90. He was born on August 24, 1926 in Port Arthur to Joseph Otis and Allie (Smith) Harrington. Walter was drafted into the Navy in 1944 and served until WWII ended. He spent many years as a painter in Uvalde. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, Vera, and spent many hours digging for arrowheads in different areas of west Texas. He shared his love for arrowheads with his son, Ray, and many friends. Later in life, he volunteered his time helping at a local nursing home. The family stated that Walter blessed many lives and will be deeply missed. He is survived by a son, Ray Caraway and wife, Marge of Victoria; step-daughter, Ella Louise Colvin and husband, Bill of College Station; nephew, Dusty Earwood and wife, Carla of San Antonio; grandchildren, Rachel Berte and husband, Larry; and Ben Caraway and wife, Cynthia; great-grandchildren, Ana Elizabeth Berte, Kate Harrington Berte, Callie Caraway, Melanie Zavala, and Wandeny Zavala; and numerous other relatives and friends including Rhonda Lefteau and DeDee Caraway. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vera Harrington; stepson, Lewis Gilbert Ross; and sister, Dorothy Earwood. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:00 am at Baptist Temple Church with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Rev. Tony Gruben will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ben Caraway, Adam Dillard, Gary Gilbertson, Troy Sheldon, Ken Dillard, and Dusty Earwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Baptist Temple Church, 620 E. Main St., Uvalde, TX 78801.
