Warren Glenn Fisher, age 96, former longtime resident of Uvalde, passed away December 12, 2014, in Rockport, Texas, with his family at his side.
On April 13, 1918, Glenn was born to Milton Theodore Fisher and Amelia Uzzell Fisher in Barksdale, Texas. The family moved to Uvalde when Glenn was two. He graduated from Uvalde High School and worked as a bellhop at the Kincaid Hotel during his school years. Glenn met his beloved wife, Florence Reeves, in Uvalde when they were introduced by a mutual friend. After dating for a year, the two were married in San Antonio on December 7, 1940. Glenn served in the Army Air Corps 847th Navigation Training Squadron in Hondo, Texas, during World War II, and completed his military service at Chanute Field, Illinois. The Fishers then returned to Uvalde in 1945 and built a home on Bunting Lane the following year. They were happily settled there for more than six decades as they raised their two children and worshipped regularly at the Church of Christ, where Glenn served as a deacon for more than 50 years. In February 1948 Glenn and Haldon Fry started F F Auto Supply, and Florence assisted them there as bookkeeper until the business was sold in 1978. After retirement, the Fishers traveled in their motor home and did volunteer work for the Cancer Society. The couple were blessed with 66 years together before Florence passed away in January of 2007. During the last months of her life, Glenn was at his wifes side daily. Following her death, he relocated to Georgetown, Texas, to be close to his daughter. There he pursued lifelong interests such as fishing and playing dominoes. Frequent visits from family and grandchildren always put a twinkle in his eye.
Glenn, a devout Christian who sought to be an example in word and deed, was a paragon of integrity and kindness. His devotion to his family was unconditional. He loved to tease, had a ready smile for all, and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. He found delight in simple pleasures and faced disappointment or adversity with faith and courage. Always treating others with respect, he lived by the golden rule, never straying from the solid values he embodied. He advised others to be tolerant of one another, and his counsel and encouragement were treasured. A gentleman in the truest sense, he was honest, wise, humble, generous, and caringa good friend and a good neighbor.
