William Coleman

William Jinks Coleman passed away on February 26, 2009 in Uvalde Memorial Hospital in Uvalde, TX at the age of 68. He was born on October 6, 1940 in Wortham, Freestone Co., Texas to Henry T. Coleman and Georgia Mae Green Gregg Coleman. Jinks graduated from Sabinal High School in 1959. He married Billie Ruth Hill on November 24, 1962 in Del Rio, TX. When they married, Jinks worked as a lineman for CPL. Soon after, they moved to Devine, TX where he was a serviceman for the company. In 1965, he went to work for Ingram Readymix as a manager of the Devine plant. In 1968, they moved to Lamesa where he worked for Plains Pea Producers for a year until they moved to Del Rio in 1969. He was employed at T.J. Moore Lumber Yard for a few months before he was hired by Capitol Aggregates as manager for their Del Rio operation. In 1976, he pursued his dream and started his own company, South Texas Aggregates, Inc. in Knippa, TX. His son, Clay, came into the business with him in 1985. Jinks was very active in the Del Rio Lions Club in the 1970s, where he served as secretary for the club as well as on the board of directors. He served as a member of the Texas Aggregate and Concrete Assoc. and the AGC of Texas where he served on the board of directors and numerous committees. He was well respected within the industry and was always willing to help his friends and associates. Jinks never met a stranger. He had a certain charisma that people loved, and his laugh will always be remembered. He was a unique person who never complained and always saw the bright side of any situation. He was preceded in death by his father in 1970, his mother in 1985, and his brother, George Franklin Gregg, Sr. in 2006. He is survived by his wife, Billie Ruth Coleman of Del Rio, TX; his sons, Clay Coleman and wife, Sharon of Castroville; Todd Coleman and wife, Jawana of Winnsboro, TX; grandchildren, Thomas Kyote and Tanna Elisabeth Coleman of Winnsboro, TX; Christopher Wayne Manire and wife, Patricia of Castroville, TX; great-granddaughter, Seana Kyrie Manire of Castroville,TX; sister, Jeannette Houston of Harlingen, TX; brother, Tommy L. Coleman of Long Beach, CA; brothers-in-law, Maynard Earl Hill and wife, Caroline of College Station, TX; and Ken Hill and wife, Sherri of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 10:00 AM at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel in Uvalde, TX. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Del Rio, TX. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Zumwalt, Larry Chisum, Larry Faglie, Wilburn Smith, Ted Luce, Galen Weber, Lawrence Hiller, Billy Chisum, and Rocky Hill. Memorials may be sent to the Capital Campaign Fund Regional Cancer Care Center co Uvalde Memorial Hospital, 1025 Garner Field Rd., Uvalde, TX, ATTN: Sheri Rutledge; or may be made at the First State Bank of Uvalde.
