William Charles Kennedy, Sr. of Sabinal, formerly of Uvalde, passed away on June 23, 2015 at his residence at the age of 83. He was a hero, cowboy, banker, fisherman, fisher of men, and beautiful family man. He will be missed. He was born on September 25, 1931 in Galveston to Martin Cheatham Kennedy and Janet Findley Kennedy. He married Linda Shackelford on May 4, 1991 in Uvalde. He is survived by his wife of 24 years; two sons, Bill Kennedy, Jr. and wife, Debbie of Danbury, TX and Mart Kennedy and wife, Martha of Loyola Beach, TX; daughter, Janet Sims and husband, Glen of New Braunfels, TX; stepdaughter, Barby Dirksen and husband, Ken of Uvalde; stepsons, John Powell and wife, Kathy of Sabinal, and Jeff Jacques and wife, Kayo of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren, Michael Sims, Matt Dirksen, Mackenzie Kennedy, Brittany Batot and husband, Lee, Will Dirksen, Colby Powell, Thomas Powell, Tres Kennedy, Travis Powell, Kaitlen Jacques, Abigail Jacques; and great-grandson, Brantley Kennedy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Virginia "Poochie" Coleman Kennedy; brother, Jim Kennedy; and life-long nanny, Barbara Drew. Cremation was under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Living Waters Church in Utopia.
