William Earl Moffett, 83, of 204 Chickadee Court, McCormick, SC, husband of Joan K. Moffett, died on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at his home.
Born in Real County, TX, he was a son of the late William Ester and Lois Belle Kelly Moffett. Bill received his BA degree in Economics from The University of Texas and was a PhD candidate at The University of Texas and The National University of Mexico. He served in the US Marine Corps and the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, where he was a recipient of the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts and the Naval Commendation Medal, and taught economics at The University of Texas and US Foreign Service in Washington, Latin America and in the Caribbean Area.
Bill spent his career with Gulf Oil Corporation, where he served as General Manager of Mene Grande Oil Gulf subsidiary in Venezuela, was Vice President in the Latin America and Caribbean areas, was Executive Vice President of Rio Blanco Oil Shale Company Gulf and Amoco mining subsidiary, was the Corporate Vice President of Gulfs World Wide Public Affairs and retired as President of Gulf Oil Foundation. He served as a consultant of international and domestic public affairs for Gulf Oil.
Bill was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, a life sponsor of Ducks Unlimited, the former Senior Vice President of NationalInternational Programs for DU, former DU Trustee for US, Canada and Mexico, a life sponsor of Trout Unlimited, Council of the Americas, Explorers Club, and a board member of both the Wildlife Legislative Fund and the Wildlife Conservation Fund.
Bill was a member of the Lutheran Church by the Lake, McCormick, SC.
Surviving is his wife of the home his children, William E. Moffett Alejandra, Deborah M. Haynes Kenny, Leslie S. Moffett, Lisa R. Rees John, Cara R. Hartsock Randy and Amy R. Gamble Jason 14 grandchildren three great grandchildren and a sister Deloise Reagan Rodney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at RushingEstesKnowles Mortuary Chapel, Uvalde, TX with burial following in Leakey Cemetery, Leakey, TX.
A memorial service will be held at The Lutheran Church by the Lake at a later date.
Pallbearers will be Will Moffett, Andrew Haynes, Jay Haynes, Kelly Reagan, Scott Reagan, Matthew Reagan and William Reagan.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
