William Spurgers, Sr.

William Lewis Spurgers, Sr. of Uvalde passed away on March 30, 2009 in Hondo Healthcare Rehab at the age of 73. He was born on March 31, 1935 in Eldorado, TX to Mollie Rodgers and Grover Franklin Riddle Spurgers. He is survived by two daughters, Jamie Van Antwerp and husband, Edward of Conroe, TX and Michelle Helmuth and husband, Randy of Las Vegas, Nevada; three sons, Bill Spurgers, Jr. of Uvalde; James Spurgers of Devine, TX; and Robert Spurgers and wife, Eva of Uvalde; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond, J.C., and Lorenzo Jack Spurgers; and three sisters, Ruby Matthews, Jewell Gatlin, and Bobbie Jo Spurgers. The family will greet visitors on Sunday, April 5, 2009, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 6, 2009, at 2:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. President Robert A. Rowland will officiate. Burial will be held in the Eldorado Cemetery on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 2:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Jason Spurgers, Shane Spurgers, Seth Spurgers, Justin Tucker, Cody Tucker, Nicholas Van Antwerp, and Elliott Van Antwerp. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Moake, Jhon Lazo, Josh Perron, Robbie Hellum, and Jeremy Huie.
