Wilson Foust

WILSON D. (DERWOOD) FOUST was born September 21, 1926 in Liberty Hill, Texas. He was one of five children, the only son, born to Graydon D. and Mary Belle (Cornelius) Foust. He was raised in the Liberty Hill area.

At the age of 17. he enlisted in the US Navy and served his country for the remainder of WW II. He was stationed in Honolulu; he saw action in the Saipan Invasion; the Battle of Leyte Philippines and the Sea Battle of the Philippines and the Liberation of the Philippines and he received the Philippine Invasion Star. He ended his service helping to decommission US Navy ships. He was Honorably Discharged in 1945.

Derwood married Lavesta L (Bunny) McGrew, the daughter of Walter and Jewel McGrew on May 24, 1947. Derwood and Bunny settled in the New London, Texas area, raising their two daughters, Sherry and Peggy Sue there. On December 15, 1948, he went to work for Exxon and retired on July 31, 1986. After loosing Bunny, Derwood married Norma Jean Turkett on May 23, 1986. They lived in Uvalde. Derwood enjoyed hunting, especially white-tail deer, was an avid reader and loved working and relaxing out at their getaway near Langtry.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Bunny, of 37 years and his sister, Linda Aaron.

He is survived by Norma Jean, his wife of 31 years: his two daughters and their husbands, Sherry L and Doug Shearer and Peggy Sue and Rich Peters; son-in-law Bob and wife Phyllis Krueger; four grandchildren and their mates, Brian Shearer, Scott and Tracy Shearer, Tim and Elisa Krueger and Kerry Batdorff; ten great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Monta Bufkin, Sue Landrum and Barbara Wilburn; step-daughter Rolla C (Turkett) and Rick Kelley; step-daughter-law, Lebo Turkett, three grandsons and their mates, Michael and Shannon Turkett, Patrick and Bobbie Kay Turkett, Rayne and Lauri Kelley and one granddaughter, Shea Kelley and fiancé, Beco Diaz; four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel. Mr. Paul Stephens will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery at 4:00 PM that afternoon. Mr. Bob Krueger, son-in-law will officiate.

Pallbearers are Derwood's Grandsons:
Brian Shearer, Tim Krueger, Scott Shearer,
Michael Turkett, Patrick Turkett and Rayne Kelley.
Honorary pall bearers are Granddaughters: Kerry Krueger and Shea Kelley.

Derwood's family would like to express appreciation to Rick and Rolla Kelley for all the years of encouragement and help given to Dad and Mom. They made it possible for them to stay in their home in these later years.
