Wylie Simmons

Wylie Marion Simmons of Brackettville joined our heavenly father on May 14, 2014, at the age of 82.

He was born in Van Alstyne, Texas, on September 13, 1931, to Ruby and Thomas Simmons and preceded in death by his parents and brother. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Georgia Charlene and his large family: his children, Bambi Fischer, Wylie Kris Simmons, Kurt Simmons, Franee Sneed, Charlie Simmons nine grandchildren, Shanae, Timmeka, Colten, Samantha, Garrett, Brett, Carly, Elexis, Tia and two great grandchildren, Jordan and Scottie along with many friends of Fort Clark Springs.

In 1995 Wylie and Charlene moved to Fort Clark Springs where Wylie took it upon himself to build their home in Unit 37. Wylie enjoyed the history of Fort Clark Springs and served on the boards of the Fort Clark Springs Historical Society, the Community Council and the Gun Club. Wylie had fun wood working and made many items which he then gave away. Loving his community he volunteered for many projects and in particular enjoyed giving newcomers a tour of Fort Clark Springs.

He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and as an usher.

As a young man, Wylie was proud to be in the Boy Scouts of America and received the highest honor as an Eagle Scout.

Wylie served his country from 1950 to 1970, beginning with the Marines and finishing in the Air Force. Among the many duty stations where he served included tours during the Korea and the Viet Nam Wars. After retiring from active military service in 1970, he further served his country at the Armed Forces Air Intelligence Training Center in Denver, Co. from 1973 to 1990.
