Yale Leland Kerby, 88, passed on July 31, 2013 at his home in Uvalde. He was born in Corunna, Michigan on April 11th, 1925. He graduated Tecumseh High School in 1942, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps shortly thereafter. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he went on to attend Michigan State University, Ohio Northern University Law School, and obtained a doctorate in Jurisprudence. On June the 30th, 1956, he married Grace Gail Cutler, a marriage that endured for over 57 years.
Leland is survived by his wife Grace his sister, Barbara Louise Dawson Kenneth of Santa Barbara, CA Three children, Marla White Craig of Troy, OH, Paula Hale Manza Jr. of Uvalde, TX, and Kevin Kerby Amy of McKinney, TX Eight grandchildren, Andrew White, Madeline White, Heather Kerby, Tristan Hale, Manza Hale III, Ryan Kerby, Jackson Kerby and Will Kerby and two greatgrandchildren, Brinnley Miller and Bellamy Miller and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Yale Harrington Kerby, mother Eltha KerbyDuff and stepfather Andrew Duff.
From the time of his graduation from Ohio Northern University Law School until his death, Leland was a practicing attorney. In addition, he served as both a District Judge and Circuit Court Judge for the State of Michigan . A Michigan native, he moved to Texas shortly after retiring as a Circuit Court Judge in 1983. Over the course of his life, he acquired memberships to many organizations, including the American Legion, the VFW, the Kiwanis Club, and the Masonic Lodge, of which he was a life member. He also served as a founder of several organizations and projects, including the Alcohol Information and Referral Center in Adrian, MI.
Leland was extremely dedicated to his work, and was very active in support of the Republican Party. During his lifetime he alternately served as a delegate to the Republican party at both the state and national levels, in addition to his aforementioned tenure as a judge. After moving to Texas, he continued to work within the party, helping to promote candidates at the local, state, and national levels while serving as Chairman of the Uvalde County Republican Party.

Visitation will be Monday, August 5th, family to be present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at RushingEstes Knowles Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Uvalde Tuesday, August 6th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Pete Nieto, Eugene Kincaid III, David White, Rudy Flores, Ryan Kerby, Tristan Hale, and Manza Hale III. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Steigerwald, Jerry Cutler, and Andrew White.
