Yolanda Rodriguez Gonzales passed from this life into eternal glory on October 30, 2024 at the age of 94. She was born in Uvalde, Texas on September 29, 1930 to Gonzalo Rodriguez Sr. and Soledad Herrera Rodriguez, the third of 6 children.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
On August 1, 1948, she married Arturo Gonzles Sr. and together they made a home in Uvalde where she continued to live until her last breath. Yolanda had the heart of a servant. She welcomed all who entered her humble, cozy home with grand hugs, a kiss on the cheek and an invitation to her table. Breakfast was her specialty and hospitality was her ministry. She had a knack for turning strangers into family, staples into feasts and her home into a castle where her guests were treated like royalty. Food was her love language and she especially enjoyed lavishing her love on her family. Her hospitality was a blessing and she gave freely of herself, always preparing a room and a meal for any of her kids or grandkids who had called to reserve a room. She was rarely idle, always searching for the next thing that needed to be done whether she was at her own home or someone else’s.
Yolanda found joy in gardening, often tending to her plants and her seemingly perpetual green grass. Her home was a sanctuary where her family gathered and where all who entered felt loved. Laughter, love and sweet memories are baked into those walls. She loved us well and we rise and call her Blessed. She loved Jesus with her whole heart and served him well at Sacred Heart Catholic Church all her life. She also served as an active member of La Vela Perpetua. She was the hands and feet of her Savior to many through her acts of kindness and service–her legacy. Though our hearts ache, we know that we will see her again, some sweet day.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arturo Gonzales Sr., brothers, Arnoldo Rodriguez and Gonzalo Rodriguez Jr., sister, Graciela Casarez and 2 grandsons, Matthew Luevano and Jordy Gonzales.
She is survived by her sister, Guadalupe Casarez of Corpus Christi, brother, Armando Rodriguez of Arlington, children, Arturo Gonzales Jr and wife Edna of Universal City, Ruben Gonzales and Marta of Uvalde, Odilia Luevano and husband Alfredo of Boerne, Rachel Flores and husband George of Houston, 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
