Anne Hughes Tarski of Uvalde died April 6, 2023, with family at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. She was born on March 6, 1958, to Louis B. and Edwina (Prados) Hughes of Baytown, Texas. She married Paul Tarski on Jan. 16, 1982, in Baytown.
Anne graduated from Lee High School in Baytown in 1976. She attended The University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1980. She then attended the University of Houston College of Law and graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1983. After marrying Paul, she worked as an attorney in Baytown.
Paul and Anne moved to Uvalde in 1986. Anne volunteered with Uvalde Food Pantry, Garden Club, Catholic Women’s Club, and other community groups. She worked for Sierra Industries from 1998 to 2005. She then worked at Cargil Produce from 2007 to 2010. She completed her career with Southwest Texas Junior College as the Vice President of Finance. Anne spent her time cooking, reading, and doting on her seven grandchildren. Anne and Paul enjoyed many trips together, their favorite being New York.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Christopher Louis Hughes, and her son-in-law, Lawrence Patrick Wegrzyn.
She is survived by her parents, her husband and her four daughters; Elizabeth Tarski McArthur and husband, Paul, of St. Louis, Alexandra Tarski Wegrzyn of Uvalde, Caroline Tarski Lauber and husband, Benjamin, of La Grange, Tex., and Margaret Tarski Rodriguez and husband, Chris, of Uvalde; seven grandchildren, Olivia Josephine Wegrzyn, Charlotte Bea Wegrzyn, Angelina Ruth Wegrzyn, Robert ‘Beau’ Tarski Lauber, Henry Louis Lauber, Jameson Lee Rodriguez and Cameron Lawrence Rodriguez; one sister, Julie Bailey of Baytown; and one brother, Timothy Hughes of Houston.
The rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, at Rushing-Estes Mortuary.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Pallbearers are her nephew and godson; Grady Bailey, nephews; Garrett Bailey, Alex Brickner and Scott Brickner; and sons-in-law, Paul McArthur and Chris Rodriguez.
